Storage Cabinets 101

If you have plans of remodeling, or building your own home, finding the right storage cabinets can make or break the look and feel of a room.  There are plenty of areas a home will need a storage cabinet, from the kitchen, garage, office, bedrooms, etc.  There are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind when you start planning for each room.  First of all consider the overall look of the room, from the paint on the walls to the carpet, tile, wood floors, etc. that are surrounding the area your storage cabinets will be.

There are many types of materials to consider, and there is no wrong or right material to use.  Some prefer oak, some prefer pine, others may have more expensive taste and go for knotty alder.  What you’ll find is that any material can match your personal taste with the way the wood in finished.  Different stains can determine how dark or light a particular storage cabinet will look.  If you are more of a do-it-yourselfer, then you might want to test different types of woods, with different types of stains.

Some of the most popular looks today, are the distressed or antique looks.  This involves making a piece of wood looking like it is aged, or distressed.  If this idea sounds foreign to you, we would recommend looking around a showcase to get an idea, because you might end up liking it too.  Obviously a storage cabinet serves a purpose, and is not only something to look at.  You’ll want to make sure that your cabinets are built to last, as you will be loading the shelves with heavy cans and other products within.
